We’ve been warned, severely, of the dangers of a life unexamined. But who tells us about the loneliness of a life examined? The isolation that extreme self-awareness brings?

It needs the courage to see yourself for who you are. The gap between where you could be and who you are. To seek growth is to be brave enough to admit that you could do better. The balancing game is to make sure you remember to be kind to who already are and how far you have come.

The thing about this fast, connected and hyperdynamic society we exist in, is that self-awareness demands a slowing down that can be painful. However, anything worth nurturing stretches you and it takes everything to fight the urge to run, hide or conform.

Hiding is remarkably easy in the internet culture. When you are consumed by consuming the latest trend, do you get a chance to examine who you are becoming or influencing?

It’s lonely to take a step back and question the norms. Your own norms especially. Self-awareness demands pause. An incredibly lonely poise in a world that insists on speeding into everything.
