It’s Always Day One

Any day, moment, or time can mark a newness

Beginnings seem to call for a neat start. A natural genesis. Like the morning. Where the promise of a new day gives you a chance to start over.

But only those mornings where you wake up neatly before the sunrise. When you can pat yourself on the back for keeping a promise to yourself. Those are the mornings that deserve new beginnings. Not the days when you jump out of bed because it is suspiciously bright outside and you overslept. Again. Those days need to be swept under the rug and forgotten.

Here’s the thing. Any day, moment, or time can mark a newness. Think of life’s biggest milestones. Do they wait for the neat end of the day or the perfect week to launch on a Monday? No. If a baby needs to be born, they will inconvenience everyone at 3 am because it is time. When the bowel does its thing and the inner storehouse is too full to hold the digestive aftermath, you have to go. Or else there will be dire consequences.

Nature doesn’t wait for perfect timing, No top hour goals, new week routines, or monthly objectives. Better yet, no annual resolutions hold them back. It does what needs to be done. How awesome would it be if we learned to free ourselves from neat beginnings?

Note to self. Get it done now. Waiting for neat beginnings builds the unrealistic habit of waiting for the perfect time. The ultimate illusion.
